My name is Scott Burns and I’m a 19-year old student from the UK, and starting university in September. The reason I’m writing is to show you all that anything is possible, and that you should chase your dreams, no matter how distant they seem.
I am an ectomorph. I find it very difficult to put on a lot of weight or muscle. Before I started gym, I used to be extremely skinny, I could see my ribs and my spine poking out of my skin, and I hated it! Why would I like it?! This is why I’m inspired by Zyzz, because he was in the same situation that I was in. A lot of bodybuilders will tell you this, Zyzz has been an inspiration to millions across the globe. If you don’t know him, he is a bodybuilder who died a few years back, and left behind a legacy that a lot of people follow. I am also one of these people, and if it weren’t for him, then I wouldn’t be where I am now.
The real reason I started going to the gym was to be bigger than the kids at school who would bully people, even myself. I felt like I was a target, it was nothing drastic, but still I felt like I needed some backing. They would always post statuses about gym and would always talk about it to everyone and I just thought to myself, “I can do better than them, they have a really lazy attitude towards everything, I’m going to make something of myself”.
So that’s what I did. Doing that has been the best decision I have ever made.
My most recent and frequent means of motivation has been watching videos on YouTube, just videos of people working out. It might sound silly, but you can really see the effort that they put into it, and you can most certainly see the results. I look at these huge, aesthetic guys on these videos and I just tell myself that’s where I want to be, that’s what I want to be like! So I just get up and do it, I go to the gym and put all my strength into working out. Why sit around all day and do nothing, when I could be putting in some effort and making something of myself?
At first, I didn’t enjoy gym. It wasn’t something I was used to, and it seemed like so much effort. However, a couple of weeks went by and I got into the basic routine and started to get more knowledgeable, which helped me get through. Not long after that I could notice that I was moving up weights, I was getting stronger, and was getting bigger too! Gains! That’s what I wanted!
This rush got me more involved, I continued to research into different training schedules and started to implement new exercises into my workouts! And still, more gains! I loved it. After about a year, people started to comment on my arms saying they were getting huge. I was a lot more confident in myself, and I had a huge sense of satisfaction.
In terms of diet, well, what diet? Being a student, I had no money whatsoever. I had no means of buying extra food to the 3 meals a day I had anyway (I was living with my parents). At the time, I didn’t really know much about calories or anything like that, so I just worked out. And despite this, I actually got quite big! With no set diet and nowhere near the recommended calorie intake, just dedication in the gym got me almost to where I am now! I have recently been able to make more gains, due to a new job which means more food, but I can tell you guys, if you can’t afford all this extra food, don’t worry about it because you can still make gains, I promise you.
Since starting gym, my dream goal is to become a fitness model. I want to be someone that people can look up to, I want to give advice to people out there who may be struggling, or people who are in similar circumstances to what I was in.
This is only the beginning, I can see bodybuilding as something I will continue to do until the day I die. It has taken over my life completely, bodybuilding is my life, and you have no idea how happy that makes me.
